Taurex UK Leadership Change Marks CRO Exit Amid $40m Series C Push

A Taurex UK leadership change has seen Zahid Mahmood depart his role as Chief Risk Officer, according to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) Register, where Taurex Limited is listed as an authorised firm. Mahmood served in the position for nearly four years, having joined when the company still operated under its former name, Zenfinex.

The departure follows closely on Matthew Wright’s return as Global CEO. Wright had stepped down four years earlier, spent the subsequent year as a Non-Executive Director, and then resumed the chief executive position with immediate effect after the Board approached him directly.

What the Taurex UK Leadership Change Means for the Business

Losing a chief risk officer (CRO, the executive responsible for identifying and managing financial and regulatory exposure) at any regulated broker tends to prompt scrutiny from its regulator. For a firm that has recently closed a major funding round and is expanding into new markets, the timing of this particular Taurex UK leadership change will draw attention to who takes on Mahmood’s responsibilities next.

One detail worth watching: the Taurex Prime team page lists Mahmood as UK Chief Executive Officer of that entity, with responsibility for risk strategy and regulatory oversight. Taurex Prime appears to be a separate entity from Taurex UK. Whether this reflects a new appointment, a concurrent role, or a web page not yet updated is unclear from publicly available information, and investors should treat that with caution until confirmed.

Before joining the company, Mahmood spent one year and eight months as Director of Trading Risk and Trading Products at Admirals, covering foreign exchange, contracts for difference (CFDs, which are leveraged instruments that track an underlying asset’s price without the investor owning it), derivatives and equity trading. He previously held the role of Director of Compliance and Trading Risk at House of Borse for two years and seven months, and before that spent four years as Head of Compliance and Brokerage Desk at FX STAT.

Series C Funding and the Growth Ambitions Behind It

The leadership reshuffle sits against a backdrop of fresh capital. Taurex recently completed a $40 million Series C round (a Series C is a later-stage equity fundraise, typically used to scale an established business rather than get it off the ground). According to Tracxn, the round closed on 3 March 2026, with existing shareholder Oscar Hilt Tatum IV again leading the investment.

Tatum IV’s involvement is not new. Before the Series C, the same investor led a $15 million round into Zenfinex Group, the predecessor business, with proceeds earmarked for proprietary technology development and new product launches, according to Finance Magnates. That gives Tatum IV a sustained, multi-year commitment to the platform across two company identities and two separate funding events.

The company says the Series C proceeds will fund back-office infrastructure, a mobile trading platform, additional regulatory licences and international expansion. Dealroom reports the round is specifically directed at AI-powered trading platform expansion, with the company stating it processes over $100 billion in trades. Taurex says it currently serves more than 50,000 clients across around 140 countries through its retail brokerage, institutional services and funded trader businesses.

The 2023 rebrand from Zenfinex to Taurex was framed at the time as a strategic shift: more proprietary tools, broader technology capabilities and a global brand identity rather than a purely regional one. The Series C is, in effect, the financial backing for that stated direction.

For retail investors watching the CFD and online brokerage sector, the combination of a new CEO, a departing CRO and a freshly closed $40 million round makes Taurex a firm whose next regulatory filings and FCA disclosures are worth tracking. The appointment of a replacement CRO, and any FCA supervisory response to the gap, will be the clearest signal of how seriously the firm is treating its compliance obligations during a period of rapid growth.

He left after the third reorganisation in five years and started filing copy because the industry needed fewer product launches and more honest commentary. He writes about fund performance, asset allocation, pensions, and the gap between what the marketing deck says and what the factsheet shows.
